Talk:Broadband Pacenet

life aquatic the movie latterdaysmovie.com pirate treasure toy chest ending explain hill movie silent sex uncensored video trolor I have deleted the wiki related to illegal use of pacenet dialer. Please refrain from posting such reverse-engineered data. As this might have legal repurcussions. If you have any query regarding accessing Pacenet using Linux OS then please contact Pacenet Customer Care at 26741122.

I'm not using Pacenet dialer at all! Get your facts right.

Reverse engineering is ethical when I find myself locked out because of my choice of operating systems. I have paid money to connect to the net, and I will. Before deleting the entry, you should ensure that Pacenet supports ALL operating systems without their users having to make extra phonecalls or attempt reverse engineering.

Requiring a separate user ID is unethical and should be of more concern than reverse-engineering password encryption. Also limiting non-windows support only for packages above a certain speed limit is "not fair".

A user has full rights to decrypt and use his own password to gain access to services for which he has paid in full.

If Pacenet does not or cannot provide a dialer in non-windows OS and over and above this, if following such How-Tos has "legal repercussions", then it should be clearly mentioned in the Terms of Service.

Using this method, we can connect to Pacenet from other OSes also. Does your username@linuxuser cover them too?

Please use your real name instead of a fanboyish title.

Well the thing is that contrary to their claim, I have got linuxuser ID for my 35 kbps pack also. So its not that they dont support all packs. You need to talk to customer care in proper way. The following is from Pacnet site for terms of service

Prohibited Uses User may not: • Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying the Internet; • Post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, profane, or otherwise objectionable information of any kind, including without limitation any transmissions constituting or encouraging conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any local, state, national or international law, including without limitation the U.S. export control laws and regulations; • Post or transmit any information or software which contains a virus, cancelbot, trojan horse, worm or other harmful component; • Post, publish, transmit, reproduce, distribute or in any way exploit any information, software or other material obtained through the Service for commercial purposes (other than as expressly permitted by the provider of such information, software or other material); • Upload, post, publish, transmit, reproduce, or distribute in any way, information, software or other material obtained through the Service which is protected by copyright, or other proprietary right, or derivative works with respect thereto, without obtaining permission of the copyright owner or rightholder; • Upload, post, publish, transmit, reproduce, transmit or distribute in any way any component of the Service itself or derivative works with respect thereto; • Run or activate processes while User is not logged in; • Run or operate like services via connections into or received from Broadband Pacenet; • Violate the security of any computer network, crack passwords or security encryption codes, transfer or store illegal material including that deemed threatening or obscene, or engage in any kind or illegal activity; • Violate any of the rules, regulations and policies of those networks and computer systems accessed via User's account.

So i think it may lead to legal trouble. Also if you find such "illegal" ways of dialing to pacenet , please keep them to yourself, or give out in a small community...say over mail, to those people who really need it. Even I know another way to find the encrypted password, but I dont think its wise to give out sensitive info on the net. Also , using the linuxuser ID , you can dial from standard windoze dialer too.

• Violate the security of any computer network, crack passwords or security encryption codes.

where is the violation of security? or cracking of passwords or security encryption codes? It is his own password he is talking about. And he is entitled to enter the system using it. This clause refers to breaking passwords belonging to others and entering a system into which one is *not* entitled to enter. Something completely different. Lawgon 07:14, 30 December 2006 (IST)

OK so here's the thing...Why cant you all jackasses shut your mouth and live life quietly. I know about this *kind of access* since a year. But I kept my mouth shut. You want to know the reason why? Beacuse by publishing it online and trying to be a hero I will end up losing the *privileges*. The more this kind of info spreads, the faster it will be patched. So why dont you just shut your mouth and restrict the spread of such information in public. I have no issues if you discuss such info in private. Now beacause of you the Pacenet admins will wake up from their sleep and patch the system. So stop being a jackass and follow certain ethics of hacking too.

What was that?

When they patch their systems, it will be a good time to inform them about including a dialer for non-windows systems - maybe using something cross platform like Java or (if they got the skills) even GTK. It will be something as simple as a frontend that mangles the password and passes it to standard dialers.

Also, Pacenetrules, we have included your method of calling Pacenet CC, so would you be kind enough not delete our method?

Personal Experience

This procedure worked very well till December 2006. Strangely (or not so strangely), after this article appeared, performance nosedived. So much so, that I had to resort to writing a "keep-alive" scipt that checked for net connection every 60 seconds. Repeated calls to the local cable-wallah and Pacenet support did not improve matters; even when I started using the @linuxuser type of account. Another friend using Xubuntu reported a similar experience as recently as May 2007. Pacenet simply did not connect to the net from a Linux box. I have been using another popular, OS-neutral ISP since March 2007. - Rohit
